If you have a cat, dog or small animal (e.g., bunny, ferret, Guinea pig, hamster, mouse, chinchilla, etc.) that you have determined you can no longer care for, we are here to help.
As a part of this community's safety net for homeless animals we depend on YOU, our community members, not only for our financial support but also to partner with us in planning for our admissions so that we are able to save as many animals as possible.
We are a Limited Admissions shelter which means once we have accepted an animal, we will never euthanize for time or space. In this way, we are able to keep euthanasia to a minimum. To do this, however, requires that we admit animals by appointment to ensure that we have a safe and appropriate place to put your pet. In some cases, especially during the summer, we may have a waiting list.
To admit a pet to the shelter:
- Please call for an appointment! (603)472-DOGS. If we have space available, we will set up an immediate appointment for you to bring your animal to the shelter. If we do not currently have space available, you will either be added to the list or advised when to try again. Please be aware, however, that if you have a situation where you truly can not wait, we will help you find an acceptable solution.
- Fill out a personality profile! This form helps us immensely in trying to place your pet successfully into a new family. Even if you are bringing us a stray animal you have kindly cared for or have only owned the animal a short time, please fill out a profile to the best of your ability and bring it with you to your appointment.

- Before you bring your pet to the League please make sure that his/her vaccinations are current. A pet that is current on shots, and has been neutered, is more readily adoptable and will likely experience a shorter stay at the shelter.
We suggest your animal have these vaccinations and would like to see proof of:

- Please contact your Veterinarian for a complete copy of your pets medical history and shot records prior to you appointment. Please bring these records with you when you come to your appointment.
- ADMISSION FEES
A single animal costs the ARLNH on average $503.92 in food, medical care and shelter. Fees for adoption cover only 12% of our costs. We have purposely kept our admission fees low so that those who need us most can afford to bring their pets to safety; however, if you are able to donate any amount in addition to the admission fee, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount above the admission fee is tax deductible as allowed by the IRS.
Dog - $50
Cat - $40
Litter of Kittens - $80
Ferret - $40
Rabbit - $30
Other Small Animal - $10

Shelter Hours for Incoming Animals:
Hours vary. Please call ahead to set up your appointment.
Please do not abandon a pet outside the shelter when we are not open. It is unlawful to abandon animals under RSA 644:8. Not only is abandonment illegal and very dangerous for the pet, but its chances of being adopted are significantly better if you provide us with the historical and behavioral information we'll ask of you when you surrender the pet. Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Please know that we must hold your pet an additional 28 days per the law before we can even begin the process of placing them into a new home. Your pet will avoid this additional month's stay with us simply by setting up an appointment.
We do not have the facilities and/or license to care for certain types of animals (see below). If you need assistance with one of these species and have been unable to find it, please call us at 603.472.3647(DOGS) and we will provide you with a list of potential resources.

Thank you for considering entrusting your pet to our care. We will do our very best to assist you in your current life circumstances and give your pet the best chance possible for a bright future.
